Thom Maxwell-Miller served as Director & Sr. Program Manager of the Great Park Design Studio in the design, entitlement, and construction, to convert 1347 acres of El Toro Marine Base from a superfund clean up site, into a great metropolitan park of the 21st century. This new type of urban park defines green development through sustainability, water quality enhancements, renewable energy, habitat restoration, historic preservation, public transportation, lifelong learning, art and cultural development and bio friendly plantings. A publicly driven project of high purpose, the Orange County Great Park was conceived to set a national standard for future opportunities in civic improvement. Mr. Maxwell-Miller created project development budget forecasts, planning schedules, construction schedules, oversaw strategic planning, negotiated real estate leases, office procurement and tenant improvements, supervised all design and construction, information technology, contract deliverables, city and stakeholder interface. He was responsible for the coordination and development of the multi-discipline studio, including: Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Planning, Entitlement, Ecology, Habitat Restoration, Geotechnical and Sustainability.
Project and construction management consulting for Park West Landscape; Pomona, Garey, and Diamond Ranch High School stadiums and sports fields. This multi - school, fast track, set of projects included complete demolition of existing facilities, drainage and water retention systems, major grading, underground utilities, paving, lighting and switchgear, as well as complete stadium facilities with synthetic turf and track surfaces; requiring over 16 subcontractors per school.
Redevelopment of aged hospital grounds, as a park for healing, including specialty courtyards for mental health, physical healing, hospice and family support (accessible only through designated wings of the hospital). Concept development focused on enhancing the recovery and peace of mind for patients, bereaved, and staff.
Snake Trail Park at the Stone Flower. Development of mosaic trails, display areas for art collections, hillside restoration with specialty native plant collections and exhibits, contemplation and study areas, erosion control and water quality mitigation.
Restoration of sensitive habitat, development of campus areas and surrounding environment, with both native parkland and formal gardens. Art displays, private pathways, meditative garden retreats.
Development of a 35-acre business campus, private members club, restaurants, parks, habitat protection and enhancement. Adjacent to Torrey Pines State Preserve & Torrey Pines Golf Course.
